Bacteria in bedding products: are they safe?

Microbial solutions are increasingly used around the farm to help manage complex ecosystems found in the feed and the forage, the animal’s gut, the organic waste. Animal bedding and manure also harbour important populations in permanent contact with the animals. 

Some bedding products include microbial inoculants that favour positive fermentation within the bedding. Such products, when applied in addition to good hygiene and management practices, provide many long-term benefits in animal welfare, reduced ammonia emissions and improved quality of the farm organic wastes.
